I haven't used some of the "higher end" stuff like Giga but I believe that those also will have a much higher quality and realism than stuff like Hypersonic and Sampletank. Still, the highest quality natural instruments I've used have been those supplied in the Apple Loops collections (the collections have instruments and loops), and the patches for Logic's built in sampler. I can layer up 5 instruments in the time it takes to load a piano in Sampletank, and Sampletank will crash half the time during loading of large patches. Hypersonic is great to me because things happen instantly. The other stuff is as good as Sampletank, Sonic Synth and Plugsound stuff which I've also used. As for the patches sounding realistic, the things I found to be truly lacking were the guitars and the ethnic instruments. That right there is worth it's weight in gold.
WHAT IS SONIK SYNTH PATCH
The only sample based soft module I've seen so far that can load any size patch instantly is Hypersonic. You should probably search for that to get more info. There was a fairly long thread comparing Hypersonic 2 to Sampletank/Sonic Synth a month or two ago. Since locating and loading sounds quickly is Hypersonic's forte I like to use Hypersonic to flesh out ideas. Patches take a little while longer to load in Sonic Synth than Hypersonic. Then there are other area's where it is a wash. That said, the Sonic Synth pianos and guitars sound more realistic than Hypersonic's and some of the Sonic Synth acoustic instruments sound more expressive, so there are some area's where it outshines Hypersonic. Many of the sounds are elements explicitly designed for layering and do not stand alone well, so be prepared. Sonic Synth does have a lot of sounds but I find most of the presets to be blah. I guess it depends on the type of sounds you tend to use. Sampletank can play Sonic Synth's sounds however. It uses the Sampletank sampling engine, but it will only play other Sonic Synth sounds. I have looking at East West Colossus and Sonik Synth 2 so far, anyone familiar. Sonic Synth is like Sample Tank with an emphasis on synth sounds, where Sampletank emphasizes acoustic sounds. Colossus, Sonik Synth 2 etc: I want to buy a big and varied sample library.
